  3. Carin, the survival mountain climbing game set to release on November 4, has been delayed to Q1 2026. The game was first revealed during Summer Game Fest 2024. Developed by The Game Bakers, the creators of Furi and Haven, Cairn centers on protagonist Aava embarking on an expedition to climb the perilous Mount Kami. The game features realistic climbing mechanics and physics, as players must carefully manage their tools and resources (like food and water) to gradually work their way towards the summit. The Game Bakers says that although Cairn is content complete, it needs a few more months to focus on optimization, debugging, and overall polish. “We have been running a lot of playtests, and the feedback from players is that we have something truly special with Cairn. We also see all the improvements we can still do to make the experience unforgettable. After 5 years of work, it makes no sense to rush it, we want to be proud of the game we launch,” explained creative director Emeric Thoa. Although Cairn has no new release date, the game’s well-received Steam demo will be updated on October 13, which will allow players to see the “ghosts” of other players climbing alongside them. Players can race against these specters, or follow them to find hidden paths, but this feature will only be available for a limited time. A new trailer shows off this update below. When Cairn launches next year, it will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC. View the full article

  7. Silent Hill f has already achieved a major sales milestone less than a week after its September 25 launch. The new mainline entry has already crossed the 1 million sales mark. Konami states the 1 million sales number reflects digital and physical copies across all platforms since September 26. That means Silent Hill f achieved this milestone in four days. This early sales success complements a very positive critical reception to the game; Silent Hill f currently boasts an 86 percent critical score on Metacritic. Silent Hill f is the first mainline entry in the series in over a decade, and unfolds in a rural Japanese village during the 1960s. It stars a teenage girl named Hinako who must fight for survival after a sinister fog sweeps through her town and transforms its residents into monsters. These sales numbers must be especially reassuring for Konami as it continues its successful resurrection of the popular horror IP, following last year's also well-received Silent Hill 2 remake. In terms of the series' future, Konami still has the mysterious Silent Hill: Townhall from Observation developer No Code and co-published by Annapurna Interactive. Most recently, Konami announced that a remake of the first Silent Hill game is in development. There’s Return to Silent Hill, a film adaptation of Silent Hill 2, which recently premiered its first trailer. For more on Silent Hill f, you can read our review here. You can also listen to a few Game Informer editors discuss the game in this episode of The Game Informer Show podcast. View the full article

  12. Electronic Arts is being acquired for $55 billion by an investor consortium consisting of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. The all-cash transaction sees this collective absorb 100 percent of the publisher, effectively taking the company private. The transaction is the largest all-cash sponsor take-private investment in history, said to “accelerate innovation and growth to build the future of entertainment,” according to a press release. The deal was approved by the EA’s board of directors and is expected to close during Q1 of the 2027 fiscal year, pending customary regulatory approvals. Once the acquisition is complete, EA will stay headquartered in Redwood City, California, and Andrew Wilson will remain CEO. Stockholders will receive $210 per share in cash, representing a 25 percent premium to the unaffected share price ($168.32 at market close on September 25, 2025). Following the acquisition, EA’s common stock will no longer be listed on any public market. “Our creative and passionate teams at EA have delivered extraordinary experiences for hundreds of millions of fans, built some of the world’s most iconic IP, and created significant value for our business. This moment is a powerful recognition of their remarkable work,” said Andrew Wilson in a press release. “Looking ahead, we will continue to push the boundaries of entertainment, sports, and technology, unlocking new opportunities. Together with our partners, we will create transformative experiences to inspire generations to come. I am more energized than ever about the future we are building.” Battlefield 6 The acquisition group, dubbed “The Consortium,” consists of three companies. First is the PIF, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. The PIF has expanded its reach into the video game industry through its Savvy Games Group, an entity founded in 2021. In the last four years, the PIF has purchased stakes in gaming companies such as Nintendo, Activision Blizzard, Take-Two Interactive, Capcom, Embracer Group, and Nexon. The Savvy Games Group also owns American mobile gaming company Scopley, and earlier this year, announced plans to acquire the game division of Pokémon Go developer Niantic. The PIF had an existing stake in EA before its full acquisition of the company. The second company is Silver Lake, a multi-billion-dollar global technology investment firm based in North America, Europe, and Asia. Lastly, Affinity Partners is a Miami-based investment firm founded in 2021 by Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President Donald Trump, who once served as White House senior advisor during Trump's first term. The Consortium states it will “bring deep sector experience, committed capital, and global portfolios with networks across gaming, entertainment, and sports that offer unique possibilities for EA to blend physical and digital experiences, enhance fan engagement, and create new growth opportunities.” Madden NFL 26 The acquisition comes as EA gears up for the October 10 launch of Battlefield 6, which is shaping up to be its biggest release of the year. EA’s portfolio of upcoming titles also includes Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, next year’s Star Wars Zero Company, and more distant projects such as the next Mass Effect, a third Star Wars Jedi title, and Motive Studios’ Iron Man. It also comes after two years of massive layoffs across EA. In February 2024, EA laid off over 600 employees. Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment suffered cuts this past April, which resulted in two project cancellations. In May, EA closed Cliffhanger Games, canceling the studio’s in-development Black Panther game. View the full article

  25. October's just about here, and that means we are struggling to stay afloat in a sea of virtual experiences. Marcus, Kyle, and Charles gathered together this week to discuss the big games they've been playing, and oh boy, there are a lot of them. We start off with Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei, followed by Hades 2, both of which seem to be frontrunners for this season's lineup of games. Silent Hill f has caused some consternation and evaluation, perhaps appealing to those drawn to rough edges, and/or creepy knife monsters. Baby Steps toes right in after them, and the show rounds out with Hotel Barcelona, a strange game from two well-known makers of strange games.
