Gamescom Trailer Reveals First Gameplay (And A New Weapon) For The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Songs Of The Past

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a game from 2015, somehow ended up being the most exciting thing at Gamescom's 2026 Opening Night Live showcase. That's partly due to the reveal of a new, free remaster of the game coming just next month, but it's also because Wild Hunt is getting new content for the first time in years. Songs of the Past, The Witcher 3's latest expansion, was announced a few months ago, and today, we finally got to see gameplay. Check out the trailer below.

In the footage, we see women dancing in flower crowns in a Midsommar-style festival (which is reminiscent of the Witcher 4 reveal, by the way), lush swamplands at sunset, and a mysterious tree creature who calls out to Geralt. "Come, sword bearer, bane of beasts," a mysterious voice calls to Geralt. "Delve into darkness and see the truth of Letten's beauty."

Letten, by the way, is the name of the game's new region. A press release describes it, saying, "This idyllic land is rich in rural tradition and folklore, and its people enjoy a fulfilling life of bountiful harvests and lavish festivals. But a dark secret lurks just beneath the surface, and Geralt must overcome never-before-seen foes as he fights to overcome its long-dormant evil."

The footage ends with Geralt wielding a new, chain-like weapon. In a follow-up interview on the Gamescom stage, CD Projekt Red level design lead Miles Tost identified it as a weapon that appeared in the intro of the studio's first Witcher game. Geralt uses it to draw a foe in for an instant beheading, and it looks about as cool as it sounds.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past is out next year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. The Switch 1 version of the game is notably absent from CD Projekt Red's messaging, however. For more Witcher, check out the recent announcement that The Witcher 4, which features a playable Ciri, drops in 2028. For Witcher-adjacent news, check out the latest update from the team behind The Blood of Dawnwalker, a game created by former Witcher developers.
