While it has all the modes you'd expect: arcade, time trials, and online multiplayer, it's single-player story mode takes a sharp unexpected turn into roguelike sensibilities. Select a vehicle and pilot archetype before embarking on a cross-planetary competitive tour as Shade, a mysterious lone racer with a chip on his shoulder, collecting new parts and hull upgrades along the way. However, once you're knocked out of the tour, you'll have to start over.
