Call Of Duty: Warzone For PS4 And Xbox One Is Being Delisted And Will Shut Down Later This Year

Game Informer

Activision and Infinity Ward revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 yesterday, which will be the first entry in this generation to release only on current-gen consoles, leaving PlayStation 4 and Xbox One behind. It won’t be alone, as Call of Duty Warzone is also abandoning last-gen hardware.

In a blog post, Activision announced that Call of Duty’s popular battle royale is being removed from PS4 and Xbox One storefronts on June 4. Once this happens, it will no longer be available for download. If the game is already in your library, you can still install and play Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One through the end of Season 6 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Overall support for the last-gen versions of Warzone will cease later this year, but Activision does not give an exact shutdown date.

The free tiers of the Battle Pass will remain active for last-gen players. Activision states that on June 4, “content purchased with local currency – including COD Points, BlackCell, such as Call of Duty League Operator Packs – will be removed from the Call of Duty: Warzone in-game store and applicable menus on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”

On June 25, Warzone’s in-game store will be removed from PS4 and Xbox One. You can still redeem COD Points until this date. If you continue playing on platforms that support Warzone, such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, remaining COD Points, purchased Battle Pass content and progression, and most content purchased with local currency will be transferred as long as everything is tied to the same Activision account.

Warzone first launched on March 10, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.  You can read our original review of the game at launch here. The free-to-play battle royale saw hundreds of players battling it out on large maps until only one remained, and it has been updated and expanded to coincide with each Call of Duty release since its launch, including a 2.0 overhaul in 2022. Although Warzone will continue to be supported on current consoles and PC, it's a bummer to see what's likely not a small portion of the player base losing access to the game in the coming months.
